The year’s selection features a special connection to Nashua
NASHUA, NH – The Nashua Public Library is proud to announce “Property of the Revolution: From a Cuban Barrio to a New Hampshire Mill Town” by Ana Hebra Flaster as its 2026 Nashua Reads: One City, One Book selection.
Now in its 24th year, Nashua Reads has become a popular community tradition, uniting the entire city in reading the same book. This year’s title features a special connection to the city, as the sweeping yet intimate historical memoir details a family’s transformation from pro-Castro revolutionaries in a scrappy Havana barrio to refugees in 1960s Nashua.
“For a program designed to bring the community together, this year’s title could not be a more fitting selection,” said Jennifer McCormack, Library Director. “Flaster’s experience as a refugee is an important part of Nashua’s history, one that mirrors the lived experiences of so many of our neighbors today,” said McCormack, “and her story of family, resilience, and belonging will resonate with readers from everywhere.”
Hebra Flaster will visit the library for the Nashua Read’s keynote event, “Beyond the Book,” on Sunday, October 25, at 2 pm. She’ll discuss the book and her experience growing up in Nashua with long-time Nashua Reads moderator Lisa Allen, followed by a Q&A and book signing. Tickets to the event are $10 online or $15 at the door.

Leading up to Hebra Flaster’s visit, the library is offering a lineup of free programs inspired by “Property of the Revolution,” including presentations on the current state of U.S.-Cuba relations, the Taíno language and culture, a Spanish-language game night, book discussion, movies, and a “Passport to the World: Cuba” event, part of its ongoing cultural celebration series.
The library has more than 75 print copies of "Property of the Revolution" available in circulation for cardholders to borrow, as well as eBook and eAudiobook formats available on Libby, the library app.
