At The Nashua Independent, we believe good journalism strengthens communities. Our job is to provide accurate, fair, and useful local news that helps you stay informed and engaged in the life of our city.

Our Approach

We're committed to fact-driven reporting grounded in verified information. Every article we publish reflects these values:

·         Accuracy first: We verify information before we publish it, provide context, and correct errors promptly and transparently.

·         Editorial independence: Our news coverage is never influenced by advertisers, political groups, or outside interests.

  • Local accountability: We focus on what matters to Nashua—local government, schools, public safety, business, and community life.

Civil Discourse

Strong communities are built on respectful dialogue, not personal attacks.

  • We do not publish personal insults, defamatory content, or inflammatory rhetoric.
  • We encourage thoughtful debate and diverse perspectives on issues that matter to our community.
  • We aim to inform without inflaming—presenting issues clearly while fostering constructive conversation.

News vs. Opinion

We clearly separate fact-based reporting from personal viewpoints:

  • News articles are nonpartisan and verified
  • Opinion pieces (columns and letters) reflect individual perspectives, not the views of The Nashua Independent.

Columns & Commentary

We welcome thoughtful perspectives from community members and regular contributors.

  • Submissions must be original, factually accurate, and civil in tone.
  • We reserve the right to edit for clarity, length, and adherence to our standards—or to decline submissions for relevance or that include personal attacks or unverified claims.

Letters to the Editor - COMMUNITY VOICES

Your voice matters. Letters allow readers to participate in local conversations.

  • Keep letters concise, relevant to local issues, and respectful.
  • Include your full name and contact information for verification (we won't publish all details).
  • We do not publish anonymous letters.
  • We may edit for clarity, grammar, and length, and we decline letters containing personal attacks, misinformation, or repetitive content.

Press Releases

We accept press releases from local governments, nonprofits, businesses, and community organizations.

  • Press releases may inform our reporting or be published in edited form—submission does not guarantee publication.
  • We prioritize releases that are relevant to Nashua and provide clear public value.

Political Campaign launch announcements: We publish these in a standardized format to ensure fairness and consistency.

Political announcements including campaign events (post launch): These are treated as sponsored content and are subject to our advertising rates. Sponsored content is always clearly labeled and distinguished from editorial reporting.

Corrections & Transparency

When we make a mistake, we own it.

  • Errors are corrected quickly and noted within the article.
  • Significant corrections include an explanation when appropriate.
  • Readers can contact us anytime if they believe an error has occurred.

Our Standards

We follow widely accepted journalism ethics, including:

  • Verifying information with original sources
  • Providing context and multiple perspectives
  • Avoiding conflicts of interest
  • Respecting privacy while serving the public interest
  • Labeling all sponsored or partner content clearly
