Pappas, the Democratic nominee and current 1st District congressman, has opened a lead after the two major-party candidates were statistically tied before the Sept. 8 primary, according to the UNH Survey Center.
Among respondents who said their cost of living had risen, 93% identified gasoline as a cost that had increased, followed by groceries at 91% and electricity or energy at 74%. Healthcare was cited by 52% of those respondents, while 31% pointed to housing costs.
The survey, conducted Aug. 20-24, also shows former U.S. Sen. John E. Sununu narrowly ahead of U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas in a potential general-election matchup. The difference falls within the poll’s margin of sampling error, making the contest statistically tied.
