The candidates for New Hampshire’s 2nd Congressional District answered chamber members’ questions on housing, health care, education, nonprofits and business priorities. They found common ground on congressional term limits, although that agreement produced one of the forum’s direct exchanges.
The union also endorsed Goodlander, a Democrat, in 2024, when she was first elected to represent New Hampshire’s 2nd Congressional District. The Professional Fire Fighters of New Hampshire represents more than 2,000 active and retired firefighters statewide.
“This year’s 35 honorees, you may think that your service is commonplace or that anyone else would have acted the same in your circumstances,” she said. “But what you may consider ordinary, we see as exceptional and worthy of recognition.”
“We’ve got some of the highest energy costs in the country, and the solutions are within reach,” Goodlander said. “Nature itself is powering this city and our state, and there’s nothing more exciting than to see how you put our natural assets to use.”
Introducing the work, music director Tom Seniow said the Hudson American Legion Band was “so very pleased to celebrate our country’s 250th birthday by musically celebrating perhaps our greatest president.”
He said Democrats must answer that anger with a concrete “Marshall Plan for America” that funds new factories, trade schools, childcare and elder care in cities like Nashua, not with what he described as vague promises about helping “the middle class.”
“The people of New Hampshire are paying some of the highest energy costs in the country, and hydropower is at the heart of lowering energy costs and making America the world’s clean energy superpower,” said Congresswoman Goodlander.
The shortage of both childcare slots and qualified teachers that is forcing many parents — especially women — out of the workforce. She said childcare in New Hampshire now rivals college tuition in cost, leaving families to make “the most painful choices imaginable”
