BEDFORD, N.H. – The New Hampshire State Police is investigating the death of a person found in the Merrimack River.
At 3:22 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, Marine Patrol Officers and State Troopers assigned to the Troop B barracks responded to a report of a body in the Merrimack River near Hawthorne Road in Bedford.
First responders located a deceased individual in the river. Preliminary information indicates the individual may have been in the water for an extended period of time.

At this time, the death is not believed to be suspicious, and there is no known threat to the public. An autopsy has been scheduled at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026, to determine the person’s cause and manner of death. The identity of the person is being withheld pending the ongoing investigation.
Marine Patrol Officers and Troopers were assisted by members of the Bedford police and fire departments and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
