MANCHESTER, N.H. — United Way of Greater Nashua is urgently calling on community members to step up as Ropes Volunteers for this year’s exhilarating Over the Edge fundraiser, taking place on Tuesday, June 23. With demand high and safety, a top priority, the organization needs 15–17 trained rope volunteers to safely staff the event’s three rappel lines — and currently has only 10 confirmed.
Over the Edge is a high-adrenaline fundraising experience where participants rappel down a multi-story building to support more than 20 local nonprofits serving Greater Nashua and beyond. While the event is packed with excitement, it relies heavily on skilled volunteer support to ensure a safe and successful experience for all participants.
Ropes Volunteers play a vital, hands-on role, working alongside professional riggers to assist participants throughout the rappel process. No prior experience is necessary — all volunteers receive expert training.
However, due to the specialized nature of the role, Ropes Volunteers must commit to both training and the full event day:
- Mandatory Training: Monday, June 22, from 1:00–4:00 PM
- Event Day: Tuesday, June 23, full-day commitment (approximately 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
- Important: Ropes Volunteers cannot work in shifts and must be available for the entire event.
As an added bonus, volunteers attending training will have the optional opportunity to experience a rappel themselves during the session.
“Our Ropes Volunteers are absolutely essential to making Over the Edge both safe and unforgettable,” said Mike Apfelberg, President of United Way of Greater Nashua. “This is a unique opportunity to be part of something exciting and impactful — supporting dozens of nonprofits while helping participants take that leap.”
With the event fast approaching, immediate recruitment is critical to ensure adequate staffing of all ropes. Community members who are adventurous, dependable, and looking to make a difference are strongly encouraged to sign up.
