Independent review confirms hospital meets nationally recognized standards for trauma care
NASHUA, N.H. – St. Joseph Hospital has earned verification as a Level III Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons (ACS), achieving national recognition for the strength of its trauma program and its commitment to providing high-quality trauma care close to home.
Notably, the ACS review team identified zero non-compliant standards during its comprehensive evaluation, an exceptional result that reflects the strength of St. Joseph Hospital’s trauma program and interdisciplinary team.
For more than 30 years, St. Joseph Hospital has served southern New Hampshire as a state-designated Level III Trauma Center. As New Hampshire transitioned Level III trauma center verification to the American College of Surgeons, St. Joseph Hospital successfully completed the rigorous national verification process, ensuring continued access to trauma services for the Greater Nashua community.
“Achieving American College of Surgeons verification with zero deficiencies is an extraordinary accomplishment and a testament to the dedication of our entire trauma team,” said John A. Jurczyk, FACHE, President of St. Joseph Hospital. “This recognition demonstrates that our patients can count on receiving nationally recognized, evidence-based trauma care right here in our community. We are incredibly proud of every physician, nurse, EMS partner, and staff member whose commitment made this possible.”
ACS verification involves a rigorous external peer review of a trauma center’s leadership, clinical care, staffing, resources, education, data collection, patient safety, and performance improvement. Verification confirms that St. Joseph Hospital has the personnel, resources, and systems necessary to provide organized and coordinated trauma care and to rapidly transfer patients who require a higher level of care when medically appropriate.
“This achievement reflects years of dedication from an extraordinary multidisciplinary team committed to providing the highest standard of trauma care,” said Dr. Kristin Raven, FACS, Chair of Surgery and Trauma Medical Director at St. Joseph Hospital. “Most importantly, it gives our community confidence that nationally recognized trauma care is available close to home, backed by a culture of continuous improvement and patient safety.”
A cornerstone of ACS verification is continuous performance improvement and patient safety. St. Joseph Hospital systematically reviews trauma cases to identify opportunities for program improvement, driving consistent, ongoing process improvement across trauma care.
The verification is valid for three years, reaffirming St. Joseph Hospital’s commitment to providing high-quality trauma care for the Greater Nashua community.
