Rivier University leads the way with three-year applied bachelor’s degree programs

Unlike many accelerated or online three-year programs, Rivier’s three-year degree programs are entirely on campus and do not require summer enrollment. Students complete a full-time course load during the traditional academic year, graduating one year earlier than students in a four-year program.

NASHUA, N.H.—Rivier University is at the forefront of an emerging movement in higher education, expanding pathways to a bachelor’s degree by enabling students to graduate in three years while maintaining the full campus experience.

Announced in December 2025, Rivier’s Degree in 3 initiative allow students to earn an applied bachelor’s degree over six fall and spring semesters with majors in Artificial IntelligenceBusiness ManagementCriminal Justice, and Elementary Education.

This innovative option complements Rivier’s traditional four-year programs, giving students greater flexibility to choose the path that best fits their goals.

A hallmark of Degree in 3 is its emphasis on experiential learning. Every student completes a guaranteed internship, gaining meaningful workplace experience before graduation. Elementary Education majors benefit from a collaboration with the Nashua (N.H.) School District, working in a Nashua-area elementary school as they prepare for New Hampshire site-based licensure.

Degree in 3 students qualify for Rivier’s Employment Promise Program, and those interested in graduate study can pursue a 3+1 pathway to earn a master’s degree with just one additional year of study.

“Rivier has always responded to the changing needs of students while remaining grounded in our mission,” says Sister Paula Marie Buley, IHM, President. “These programs create a new pathway to a bachelor’s degree while preserving the transformative education and sense of community that define Rivier.”

Degree in 3 students are fully integrated into undergraduate life at Rivier, with access to campus housing, NCAA Division III athletics, clubs and organizations, leadership opportunities, campus events, and academic and student support services. They learn alongside their peers, build relationships with faculty and classmates, and take part in the same campus traditions and experiences as students in four-year programs.

By graduating a year earlier, students can save a full year of tuition, room, board, and related expenses while also having the opportunity to enter the workforce and begin earning income sooner.

“Students and families are paying close attention to cost and career outcomes,” says Ricky Mott, Vice President for Enrollment Management. “Rivier’s three-year degree programs lower the overall cost of a bachelor’s degree while giving students the extensive career preparation and campus experience they expect from Rivier.”Rivier’s three-year applied bachelor’s degrees are approved by the New England Commission of Higher Education and the New Hampshire Higher Education Commission.
