“These courses are designed to not only be informational but enjoyable and fun. We’re here to have a good a time, and to learn something new at the same time,” said Jon Mason, Director of Workforce Development at NCC

Skills and enrichment classes open to teens and adults

This fall, Nashua Community College will debut new community education and enrichment classes like cooking, memoir writing, basic auto repair, and more.

“These courses are designed to not only be informational but enjoyable and fun. We’re here to have a good a time, and to learn something new at the same time,” said Jon Mason, Director of Workforce Development at NCC.

Courses are led by experienced instructors from the college and community, and range from one session to several weeks.  For instance, the Basic Vehicle Maintenance for New Drivers course is a one-day session Saturday, Oct. 10 that teaches new drivers essential vehicle maintenance skills through hands-on lessons.

Open to anyone 15 and older, the course covers how to check and maintain tire pressure, identify dashboard warning lights, check fluid levels, safely jump-start a vehicle, change a tire, and perform basic vehicle inspections.

One of the longer series, the Creative Writing Course, is a workshop that takes place over 8 weeks beginning Sept. 16. In this course, participants will learn techniques for writing memoirs, personal essays, and fiction through short readings, discussions, guided exercises and encouraging feedback.
