NASHUA, N.H. — Nashua Community College’s Workforce Solutions department held a graduation Thursday for its latest class of medical assistants.
The 12-week training program is a collaboration among Nashua Community College, Southern New Hampshire Health and ApprenticeshipNH. Eight students completed the cohort and passed the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant national exam.
Medical assistants are health care professionals who support doctors in medical offices, clinics and hospitals. All eight graduates are now employed by Southern New Hampshire Health and will complete 3,600 hours of work there over the next two years to finish the apprenticeship program.
“You should be proud. You should be proud of the field that you elected to go into. The world needs you,” said Barry Garside, vice president of academic and student affairs at Nashua Community College. “Our health care institutions are stressed today. What you do matters. What you do impacts our society.”
“Your professional growth has been nothing short of remarkable. You have transformed from students learning the fundamentals in health care into health care professionals who are ready to care for patients and contribute to your health care team,” said course instructor Kelly McKinnon of Southern New Hampshire Health. “The knowledge, skills and professionalism you have developed in just the last few months are truly impressive, and you should be incredibly proud of yourselves.”
The Workforce Solutions department at Nashua Community College offers accelerated career boot camps, apprenticeships and customized corporate training. The department partners with local businesses to help job seekers build careers and fill high-demand labor gaps, including through programs such as the Microelectronics Boot Camp and the Precision Manufacturing Boot Camp
