NASHUA, N.H. -For youth at Nashua Children's Home, healthcare can feel intimidating. Many residents have experienced trauma, instability, or significant disruptions in their lives, making trusted relationships especially important.

Through a partnership with Lamprey Health Care, youth can now access primary care and behavioral health services right where they live through the Mobile Health Unit.

"Many of the young people we serve have experienced significant challenges in their lives," said CEO Matt Fentross. "When healthcare is brought directly to them by providers they know and trust, it removes barriers and creates opportunities for them to engage in care in a way that feels comfortable and accessible."

That connection began almost immediately, according to Community Health Worker Maddie Craig.

"On the very first day, the kids were curious, engaged, and excited to see the Mobile Health Unit," Craig said. "They came onboard, asked questions, and wanted to learn more. It gave us a chance to start building relationships right away."

The Mobile Health Unit also makes life easier for Nashua Children's Home staff.

"Instead of coordinating transportation, pulling kids from school, or finding coverage when a counselor has to leave for an appointment, care happens right here on campus," Craig said. "It's far less disruptive for everyone."

For 16-year-old Tony, seeing familiar faces has made healthcare easier.

"Having Janna [Lamprey Pediatric Nurse practitioner] there makes it easier," he said. "I already knew her and trusted her."

He also appreciates avoiding the trip across town.

"I like that I don't have to go downtown for appointments anymore," Tony said. "Depending on traffic, it could take a while and interrupt my day."

Craig says one of the clearest signs of success is what happens between appointments.

"Tony is personable, confident, respectful, and incredibly funny," she said. "We've loved getting to know him. What's really meaningful is that he and other residents often stop by the van just to say hello even when they do not have scheduled visits. They're building relationships with the team, and that's exactly what we hoped for."

By bringing care directly to Nashua Children's Home, Lamprey Health Care is helping young people access healthcare in a setting where they feel comfortable, supported, and understood, proving that sometimes the best way to deliver care is simply to meet people where they are.
